7 Ways to Spend Time with God with Little Time
Is it possible to spend quality intentional time with God with a very busy schedule? Absolutely! In fact, it’s possible to be more connected with God now than when you had more free time. Here’s how…

You probably remember those days when spending time in God’s presence felt easier, but lately, it suddenly feels more difficult. Chances are, you spend time with God from time to time, but not at the frequency that you would like.
Finding time to nurture your relationship with God amidst the chaos of daily obligations is a common struggle. We long for moments of connection with God but find ourselves constantly overwhelmed by work, family, and other responsibilities. If so, you’re not alone. Many of us face the challenge of carving out time, leaving us feeling spiritually depleted.
However, carving out moments in your day to spend with the Lord is essential for nurturing your spiritual growth and being intentional about your spiritual life/ But fear not; these seven ways will help you prioritize your relationship with God even in the midst of life’s demands.
Below are seven practical ways to set aside intentional time with God in your daily life, even with little time.
Tips to get started
First, here are some simple tips to keep in mind:
Make it the first thing.
Do it first thing in the morning.

As the day goes by, we tend to feel dispersed, with so many things pulling for our attention. By prioritizing this time in the morning, you ensure you are in your purest state of mind and with the fewest distractions. Devoting even just a few minutes each morning to prayer, reading scripture, and reflecting on God’s word can help you feel more centered, focused, and at peace as you deal with the busyness of daily life. Setting aside this time also allows you to express gratitude.
By starting your day with an attitude of thankfulness and reliance on Him, you are better equipped to handle whatever comes your way.
Eliminate distractions
Identify what is keeping you from connecting to God and eliminate it (even if only temporarily).
Eliminating distractions is essential to spending quality time with God. Prioritize this time as sacred, find a quiet place, and create a peaceful environment. Set aside dedicated time each day for prayer, meditation, and reading scripture. By removing distractions such as technology or busy schedules, you can fully focus on connecting with God.
For instance, if you know the first thing you do when waking up is grab your phone instead of praying, consider getting an analog alarm clock. You could also place your phone as far away as possible so you are forced to get up to turn off your alarm. Do not grab your phone until you’ve spent time with God.
Reduce your holiness expectations.
God cares about your yearning to connect to him, not about performance, so if you seek him intentionally through a one-minute prayer while you have a moment at work or while grocery shopping, that is enough; if you place high expectations on how perfect, quiet, and long you want your prayer moments of reflection and talks to God to be, odds are it will become performative, and you won’t do it for very long.
If you reduce your expectations, you can connect to God every hour of your day. As you will know, even a minute is enough.
Schedule it
You can always connect to God no matter where you are, but as Jesus and other biblical figures show us, spending time in solitude with God is ideal. Scheduling it first thing in the morning and devoting set times throughout the month can make sure you have more of these moments despite the busyness of life.
Most likely, you have work and house responsibilities and not much time left to spend hours in God’s presence. Although we would all like to spend more time in that sweet presence, if it takes 30 minutes of your morning that you don’t have, for starters, then it won’t be sustainable.
Set an amount of time and be realistic.
Set a realistic duration that fits your current life circumstances, be it 20 or 15 minutes in the morning. Try to be realistic with your current time allotments.
7 ways to spend time with God with little time
1. Pray, even if just for 1 minute.
Do you want to pray throughout the day but are always dispersed by responsibilities, work, household pressure, and feeling overwhelmed? Here’s my advice: start with a one-minute prayer. When I only have a few minutes or feel unfocused, I often pray for a few minutes, sometimes less than one minute.
If you struggle to find the focus and time to pray, remember you can be honest. You could make excuses and try to fool yourself, but not God, not your soul (true you). So if your prayer starts with “God, I’m tired/ dispersed, and I don’t feel like praying. Help me to be here,” it’s still a success. This is not performative; God is available—always—you don’t have to follow a set prescription or set amount of time to talk to him.
Whenever you feel antsy, dispersed, or overwhelmed, stop and pray; even 20 seconds of consciously tuning into the presence of God is worth it. Drop the expectations, stop, and pray.
2. Connect to God through nature.
Connecting with God through nature is one of my favorite things, whether on a short walk ( when I mean short, even less than 10 minutes) or before dawn. Looking out at the stars in the sky, I love seeing God’s order, stability, creativity, and Design, spending time with God in nature is a relaxing way to enjoy God’s presence, as you see his beautiful creation your soul and mind voluntarily will worship him, looking at such splendor!.

3. Memorize a short Scripture.
Memorize a short scripture and try to remind yourself of it at key moments of your day; what I like to do is repeat a passage in the morning, and some verse catches my attention or heart; I repeat it internally at midday and before bed.

4. Write or Jot down a short scripture.
This is among my favorite, shortest, yet powerful spiritual practices. It can also be a quick yet powerful meditative practice as you write down the scripture. The exercise of writing focuses your mind to be more present and helps you better internalize and live out the message of the scripture.
I like writing out a Short scripture or verse that impacted me or spoke to me at the top of my journal entry early in the morning. You could also quickly jot down a verse on a Post-It note and carry it with you throughout the day (for those of us with less-than-stellar memories) to be mindful of scripture in our actions throughout the day.

5. Schedule a morning with God.
Schedule in your calendar or reminders spending a morning with God; for those of us short on time, this can even be 15 extra minutes besides your everyday prayer or Bible reading.
During that time, feel free to pray freely, worship, read scripture in depth, jot down some reflections from bible reading, or talk to God as a friend.
If you are a student, on vacation, or have more time freed up, you could spend an hour or two on meditation, reading, reflection, worship, etc.

6. Worship to spend more time with God
Whether belting out hymns or silently praising God, worshiping God is a profoundly spiritual way to spend time with God, which brings peace and gratitude and can take a song or two worth of time.
Worship music can also help you connect to God throughout your days, whether while commuting or during your morning time with Him.
Listen to your playlist of the latest praise and sing it loud! (maybe just internally), placing God at the top of the charts and priorities in your heart.
7. Set an alarm mid-day to reconnect
As the day starts and we get bombarded with work and responsibilities, it is easy to forget our connection to God and the zen we may have felt in the morning.
Set an alarm midday to remind yourself of what you read in the Bible that day and for you to pray. This could take as little as 5 minutes; the point is to remind yourself and give you a little nudge to intentionally realign with what your soul set out to do in the morning.

Bonus: 2 extra ways to spend more time with God with little time
1. Sabbath once a month
This is an amazing way of enjoying God’s presence. Although it can be challenging with multiple life demands and little time, it is so worth it (I know I struggle with a full Sabbath day, free of anything needed for the week, home or productive). Still, something that has worked for me is re-starting slowly with less time.
You could start with half a day or even an hour, just accepting the gift of rest and being present with God, yourself, and your loved ones. If you feel like it, you could add more sabbath hours or days as you progress. Hopefully, working towards a full Sabbath day a week.
During that time, challenge yourself to be present, without screens, tech, distraction, productivity, work, or housework. Just be present, enjoy, and let go of the illusion of control.
2. Talk with God as a friend.
A simple way to spend more time with God is to talk to him throughout our day. Talk to God as a friend, let go of formalities, and talk. Share your hopes, fears, and burdens. This will also serve as a nice reminder that you are never alone in this journey of life.
Remember that spending time with God is not about quantity but quality – cultivating an ongoing conversation and relationship with Him.
Incorporating these seven ways to spend time with God into your daily routine can help you create a sense of peace throughout your days.
Whether through prayer, meditation, studying the Bible, or simply being still in His presence, making time for God each day allows us to find strength in Him. May we all prioritize our spiritual well-being by carving out moments to connect with God through everything surrounding us.

Thank you, I’m happy you found it useful : D
These are some wonderful ideas. I don’t talk with him often enough. More so since I lost my twin 2 1/2 years ago. I have days that just go by but I still try and have those chats. : D
Thank you for sharing that with me. I can only imagine how challenging it must be, especially after such a significant loss. It’s great that you’re still finding moments to have those chats, even on the harder days. Those connections, however brief, can make such a difference. Sending you a big hug,
